FO161 Ammonite

FO161 Ammonite

$75.00

This is a very nice Ammonite set from Madagascar of a different species than most we sell.   Each side measures 6 1/8″ x almost 5 3/8″ x over 3/4″ thick and has a good polish.  This set has a beautiful Brown color with lighter Gold highlights in the crystallized areas and close inspection shows some Pyrite separating the chambers. The back sides have been left natural and unpolished.  A great gift or excellent educational tool.

Description

Ammonites are extinct members of the cephalopod group of mollusks. Only a limited number of species have survived to the present day which includes the squid and the chambered nautilus. Ammonites had a multi-chambered shell, and added more chambers as it grew, always living in the outer chamber.  They lived in the Cretaceous period some 63 to 130 million years ago.
