GAL211 MADAGASCAR AMMONITES

GAL211 MADAGASCAR AMMONITES

$275.00

This is an incredibly awesome specimen of Douvilleiceras Ammonites from Madagascar.  The astonishing display has a large Ammonite with a much smaller one attached.  The distinct tubercles and raised ridges form a beautiful pattern along the body of the Ammonite.  It has much of the outer shell and remnants of the mother-of-pearl type iridescence.  The large Ammonite measures 6″ x almost 5″ x nearly 3 3/8″ with a shiny polish and excellent detailed sutures all the way to the aperture.  The small Ammonite is nearly 2″ x 1 1/2″ with very good detail, too.  This wondrous Ammonite fossil specimen weighs nearly 3 1/4 pounds.  An absolutely fabulous Ammonite display for any fossil collection!

Description

Ammonites are extinct members of the cephalopod group of mollusks. Only a limited number of species have survived to the present day which includes the squid and the chambered nautilus. Ammonites had a multi-chambered shell, and added more chambers as it grew, always living in the outer chamber.  They lived in the Cretaceous period some 63 to 130 million years ago.
