M261: Copper Specimen. Locality: Ray Mine, Arizona. Selection: Rough Specimen.

Appearance: This unique specimen is from the Ray Mine. The Ray Mine, located in Pinal County Arizona. Opened in 1880 and has produced roughly 62 million pounds of copper. We believe this awesome specimen could be post mine creation, meaning that it may have formed in the mine dump around a pipe or a stick in the dump as it has a deep 1/2″ hole running almost the entire length of the specimen. Great item for any collection.

Description

Copper is a reddish colored metal with a high electrical and thermal conductivity.  It has its characteristic color because it reflects red and orange light and absorbs other frequencies in the visible spectrum due to its band structure.  It is in the same family as Silver and Gold and is a malleable metal.  It is beautiful natural or polished.
