AG102 Fairburn Agate

AG102 Fairburn Agate

This is a very nice Fairburn Agate from near Fairburn, South Dakota.  The Fairburn Agate is a rare Agate that is found in many colors and variations of banding.  This one has nice banding in different shades of brown and tan around the nearly clear center and measures 4 1/4″ x 2″ x 2 1/8″.  It has not been polished and has a natural smooth appearance.  A great gift for that “rock hunter” or keep it for yourself.

Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing Silica in solution which is possibly derived from the decomposition of Silicates in the lava.  The Siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting in the banded or striped formation.  It is very unlikely that you would ever find an exact duplicate of any type of Agate, Fairburn or other.
