This is a new and different item at the Rock Shed; a Turritella Agate from south central Wyoming. It has a soft Grayish Brown color and has many, many nice fossils scattered throughout. This specimen measures 2 7/8″ x 2″ x 1/4″  and was cut and polished right here in our very own Lapidary Department. A nice item for any fossil collection.

Description

Turritella Agate is composed of silicified fossil shells in various matrix composed of soft sandstone to a dense chalcedony. Some of the Turritella are actually shells of the freshwater gastropod, Elimia tenera. These fossils are considered to be from the Eocene Epoch to the Cretaceous period in age.
