FO500 Ammonite Bowl

FO500 Ammonite Bowl

$60.00

This is an exceptionally nice and very unique fossilized Ammonite from Madagascar.  The exterior has been ground smooth, polished to show the suture lines, and the interior shaped into a functional bowl.  The Ammonite has pretty brown and tan exterior colors with the highly detailed tan suture lines.  The inside of the Ammonite shows the yellow calcite in the different chambers in the center. It also has some nice iridescent color areas.  The lovely specimen measures 5 3/4″ x 4 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ thick.  Very nice!

Description

Ammonites are extinct members of the cephalopod group of mollusks. Only a limited number of species have survived to the present day which includes the squid and the chambered nautilus. Ammonites had a multi-chambered shell, and added more chambers as it grew, always living in the outer chamber. They lived in the Cretaceous period some 63 to 130 million years ago.
