M402 Celestite

M402 Celestite

This is a beautiful nice sized specimen of Celestite. This lovely Celestite has many, many very nicely defined and sparkly icy blue crystals some with subtle “rainbow” reflections.  It measures 5 1/8″ x 5″ x 3 7/8″ and has not been polished.  The pictures don’t really do it justice, this piece is awesome.

Celestite is a mineral form of Strontium Sulfate which is a metal.  The metal is mixed with Carbon and Sulfur which is used for the red “fire” in fireworks, flares and road signals.  Celestite occurs as Crystals and in compact massive and fibrous forms.  It is mostly found in sedimentary rocks and is often associated with Gypsum, Anhydrite and Halite.  Pale blue Crystal specimens are found in Madagascar.
