Here is a treasure found here in the Black Hills of South Dakota, a great piece of Chalcedony with Calcite. The unique specimen measures 2 3/4″ x 1 5/8″ x 1 1/4″. The Chalcedony will fluoresce bright green and the Calcite a pretty peach color under a SW/UV light. Make it part of your mineral collection!

Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine intergrowths of the minerals quartz and moganite. It has a waxy luster, and may be semitransparent or translucent. It can assume a wide range of colors, but those most commonly seen are white to gray, grayish-blue or a shade of brown ranging from pale to nearly black.
