Blue Botswana Agate ranging in size from 3/4″ to 2″
Rough Botswana agates are hard to find these days due to customs policies to be cut or polished in some way before leaving Africa. These agates are from an old collection and are ready for tumbling, cutting, cabbing or simply collecting. Some may be whole which likely have beautiful banding in the center and many are broken pieces that already show their beautiful colors.
Agates mostly occur as nodules in volcanic rocks or waters containing silica in solution possibly derived from the decomposition of silicates in the lava. The siliceous matter is deposited in regular layers resulting in the banded or striped formation.
