BCR415 Fluorite

BCR415 Fluorite

  • Here’s a new item, a gorgeous piece of Fluorite from China.
A great rock for cutting and any lapidary project.
This is a select piece of Fluorite that Shawn has picked out. He says he sees something special in these. Whether it be that it needs thumbed, ground on and tumbled, cut and tumbled or cut and polished , he sees something. Whether you will see what he sees, or whether you can bring to fruition what he sees would be up to you. Of course, with all rocks, there are still risks. There could be fracture lines in the wrong place, the color may change or…Shawn could just be wrong. Regardless, these are much higher quality than our regular tumble material.
This lovely piece not only has great clarity, neat inclusions, subtle “rainbow” reflections with great variety of gorgeous Fluorite colors.
  • It will fluoresce under a LW/UV light
  • It measures 3 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ x 2 7/8″ and weighs nearly 1 1/2 pounds.

Fluorite, also referred to as fluor-spar, is a mineral composed of Calcium Fluoride.  It is a widely occurring mineral found world wide and is often found with metallic minerals such as Galena, Sphalerite, Barite, Quartz and Calcite.  Fluorite may fluoresce strongly in ultraviolet light which may be due to the presence of some impurities such as Yttrium.  Blue is the most common color but red, purple, green, yellow and white are also frequent.  It can be used in high performance telescopes, camera lens, enamels and in the making of opalescent glass.
